Upload an Image

Before uploading an image, please read over the Web Governace Polices regarding images and photographs.

In the left-side menu, click Collections to open the Collections menu. Click on Media (or you can hover over Media and select Add New from the Media menu).

On the Media Library page you will see any media that have been previously uploaded to this site.  Click Add New next to the Media Library page title and this will take you to the Upload New Media page.

Drag/drop your images into the outlined square or select the images you want to upload by clicking Select Files. You can upload more than one image at a time (max upload file size is 4MB).

Once the image(s) has uploaded, on the Upload New Media page, you will see Edit next to the image. Click on Edit.

On the Edit Media page, rename the media to something you will recognize later, add alternative text that will identify to people using a screen reader what the media is, and add caption and description if necessary. Alternative text must indicate in complete words what the image is without abbreviations. When completed, click Update.

Now you can go back to the Media Library and you should see your image in the list.

Troubleshooting Media Uploads

Images Don't Upload

There are a variety of reasons an image won't upload. It may be due to bandwidth problems on the server or your computer.

Image is uploaded but you don't see anything

Sometimes, after uploading the image, you don't see anything on the screen. If that happens, try refreshing the page. Often, the image is uploaded but it is not reflected on the screen until you refresh.

Try using the Add Media menu item

Instead of using the "Add Media" button at the top of the Media Library, use the "Add Media" option in the left side menu. This page has a little more information than the 'Add Media' button option, so we might be able to see more information about what is going wrong.

If you are continuing to have problems, please email webteam@uwsa.edu and include the following information:

  • Browser you are using

  • Type of network you are using (VPN, home, office)

  • Site you are trying to upload to

  • Attachment of the image you are trying to upload

Uploading Large Images

WordPress will automatically scale a large image. This is good in most cases because embedding large images on the site will slow it down.

If for some reason you need to link to the large image, you can find the link by clicking on the image in the media library and copying the Original Image URL:
