Add a Redirect
Use a redirect if a page has moved or to provide a ‘short link’ for print publications.
On the site for which you want the redirect, log in to the Dashboard. Navigate to Tools > Redirection.
Click “Add New.”
Fill out the form.
Source URL is the URL that is going to be redirected. Only include the part after uwss.wisconsin.edu. So, if you want to redirect uwss.wisconsin.edu/comms-sharepoint, add /comms-sharepoint. Dashes ( - ) and underscores ( _ ) are okay, but don’t use other special characters.
Under URL options / Regex, choose Ignore Case and Ignore Slash. This means the redirect will be used no matter the capitalization of the URL and if the user includes a slash at the end of the URL or not.
Query Parameters: This can usually be left to the default. This refers to parameters in the URL after a question mark. In almost all cases we won’t care about these.
Target URL: This is where the redirect is going to. It can be a page on our site or a URL to someplace else on the internet (for example, Sharepoint).
Group: This helps us organize our redirects.
Use “Short Links” for redirects we are using for print materials.
Use “Redirections” for changed URLs on our site.
We can make more groups if we have another need.
Click “Add Redirect” option.
To test the new redirect, click on the redirect in the list.
To copy and paste the new short link, right click on the URL in the list and choose ‘Copy Link Location’ (in Firefox) or ‘Copy Link Address’ (in Chrome)
Import Redirects
If you have a long list of redirects, the web team can help you import them using a spreadsheet.
