Page Template with Sidebar

Use a page template with a sidebar to create a sub-section of your site. Easily add the same sidebar to a bunch of pages.

Create the Menu for Sidebar

Follow the instructions on Create a Menu to build a menu in the Menu Collection. Add the items you would like to include in your section.

Create a Template

  1. Navigate to Collections > Templates.

  2. Create a new template, and name it after your section.

  3. Select the row with the left sidebar.

  4. In the left sidebar column, add a Supplemental Menu module. Select the menu you created above.

  5. In the main section, add a Content Placeholder module.

Create a Page with the Template

  1. Create a new page. Use the the Classic Editor (don’t switch to Zuse Create).

  2. In the Page Attributes metabox, choose the Template you created.

Optional Steps

Use Parent-Child Relationships to Organize Pages

Often, pages in a sub-section are all children of a page. This helps keep the pages organized. To make the pages a child of another page, select a parent in the Page Attributes metabox.

If all of the pages you want to include in your menu are children of a single parent, try using a Sub Page menu instead of the Supplemental Menu. Sub Page Menus automatically display all of the children of a chosen page.

Use Reusable Content for the Sidebar

If some of your pages need dynamic content so they need to use Zuse Create instead of the Classic Editor, create your sidebar using Reusable Content. You can add that Reusable Content item to the sidebar of your template, and to other pages in your subsection.

  1. Before creating your template, create a Reusable Content Section (Collections > Reusable Content).

  2. Create your sidebar in the Reusable Content Section.

  3. When you create your template above, add a Reusable Content module to the sidebar instead of the menu module.
